Grommets and Plugs

A screw grommet is a nylon or plastic insert that snaps into a square or round hole in sheet metal and gives a tapping screw something to bite into. They are used on fender liners, splash shields, tail lamps and trim pieces where the body metal is too thin to hold threads. Sheet metal plugs close unused holes in floors, firewalls and body panels to keep out water and road noise.
