Wrenches are one of the most essential tools for any automotive mechanic. They come in a variety of sizes and types, each designed for a specific purpose.

The most common type of wrench is the adjustable wrench. Adjustable wrenches can be adjusted to fit a variety of sizes of bolts and nuts. They are typically made of steel and have a jaw on each end that can be opened and closed to grip the bolt or nut.

Another type of wrench is the socket wrench. Socket wrenches have a series of sockets that fit over the bolt or nut. The sockets are attached to a ratchet handle, which allows the mechanic to turn the bolt or nut without having to constantly reposition the wrench. Still another type of wrench is the torque wrench. Torque wrenches are used to apply a specific amount of torque to a bolt or nut. This is important to ensure that the bolt or nut is properly tightened and does not come loose. Torque wrenches are typically calibrated in foot-pounds or Newton-meters.
