  • Intake Air Temperature Vehicles imported into the U.S. as of the 1996 model year are required to have an on-board diagnostic system (OBD II). The on-board diagnostic system must use one of the approved protocols to allow access to engine emissions-related fault codes and other data. The most common protocols in current use are:
  • SAE J1850 VPW - GM and some Japanese made vehicles
  • SAE J1850 PWM - Ford vehicles made in North America
  • ISO 9141 - Most European, Asian, and Chrysler vehicles The 5906 A will access engine emission-related information from vehicles that use one of the protocols listed above (excludes some diesel models).
