What is a wheel bearing packer and why do I need one?

A wheel bearing packer is a tool used to efficiently and thoroughly grease wheel bearings. Properly greased bearings are crucial for smooth wheel rotation, preventing premature wear and failure. Using a packer ensures the grease is forced into all the bearing surfaces, something difficult to achieve manually.

What types of wheel bearing packers does ToolSource offer?

ToolSource offers a variety of wheel bearing packers, including hand-operated and pneumatic models. Hand-operated packers, like those from Lincoln Industrial, are ideal for occasional use, while pneumatic packers are better suited for high-volume applications in professional shops. We carry 39 different bearing packers to suit various needs.

What should I look for when choosing a wheel bearing packer?

Consider the size of the bearings you'll be working with, the frequency of use, and the type of grease you'll be using. Some packers are designed for specific bearing sizes, while others are more universal. Also, look for durable construction and ease of use, as offered by brands like OTC Tools and Equipment.

Can I use a bearing packer for bearings other than wheel bearings?

While primarily designed for wheel bearings, some bearing packers can be adapted for other types of bearings, depending on their size and configuration. Check the product specifications to ensure compatibility. Brands like Lisle offer versatile packers that can handle a range of bearing sizes.

How do I properly use a wheel bearing packer?

Generally, you'll place the bearing into the packer, then use the tool to force grease through the bearing until it's fully packed. Refer to the specific instructions for your chosen packer model, as the process can vary slightly. Proper use ensures complete grease coverage and prevents air pockets.

What are the benefits of using a pneumatic bearing packer?

Pneumatic bearing packers, often available from brands like Samson Corporation, offer increased speed and efficiency compared to manual models. They are ideal for shops that service a high volume of vehicles or equipment. The consistent pressure ensures thorough grease penetration, saving time and effort.

Do you carry bearing packers for motorcycle wheel bearings?

Yes, we offer bearing packers suitable for motorcycle wheel bearings. Some packers are specifically designed for smaller bearings, while others may require adapters. Check the product descriptions for compatibility or consider universal packers from brands like JIMS USA.

What maintenance is required for a wheel bearing packer?

Regular cleaning is essential to prevent contamination and ensure proper operation. Wipe down the packer after each use and periodically inspect for wear or damage. Some models may require occasional lubrication of moving parts, as specified in the manufacturer's instructions.
