Bearing Drivers

Bearing drivers are a type of tool used to install and remove bearings from shafts. They are typically made of hardened steel and come in a variety of sizes to fit different bearings. Bearing drivers have a tapered end that fits into the inner race of the bearing, and a threaded end that is used to drive the bearing onto or off of the shaft.

Bearing drivers are an essential tool for any automotive mechanic, as they are used to install and remove bearings from a variety of different components, including crankshafts, axles, and wheel hubs. Bearing drivers are also used in other industries, such as construction and manufacturing.

Types of Bearing Drivers

There are a variety of different types of bearing drivers available, each designed for a specific application. The most common types of bearing drivers include:

  • Tapered bearing drivers: These drivers have a tapered end that fits into the inner race of the bearing. They are used to install and remove bearings from shafts.
  • Ball bearing drivers: These drivers have a ball-shaped end that fits into the inner race of the bearing. They are used to install and remove bearings from shafts that have a limited amount of space.
  • Bearing pullers: These drivers are used to remove bearings from shafts by applying a pulling force. They typically have a threaded end that is attached to a lever or a screw.

How to Use Bearing Drivers

To use a bearing driver, first select the correct size driver for the bearing. Then, insert the tapered end of the driver into the inner race of the bearing. If the bearing is stuck, you may need to apply some penetrating oil to help loosen it. Once the bearing is free, you can use the threaded end of the driver to drive the bearing onto or off of the shaft.

Bearing drivers are an essential tool for any automotive mechanic. They are easy to use and can help you quickly and easily install and remove bearings from a variety of different components.
